Dunedin, is where I celebrated reaching 40, i prefer to think it more as 20+20 or 2x20. And yes John I was not far far behind you. What did I do on my my birthdays. Well I went on the Cadbury's World Tour. Dunedin is the NZ home of Cadbury. I thought why not; I lived in Birmingham not far from Bournville, the home of Cadbury, and I never visited Cadbury World. I though why not. It was fun but it was no Charlie/ Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory Experience. It past a hour before I headed to my sofa in Starbucks - Yes, I know that there are lots of small coffee shops in Dunedin, but none had comfy chairs to spend a few hour reading before dinner with Claire & Leonard - thanks for dinner - and a Falafal Burgers by the Ocean - It was dark and I believe the Ocean was out there somewhere. How many years I have eaten Falafals I have never thought of making a burger. Radical but simple. I will like to thank everybody who sent me a Happy Birthday by post, email, posted on this blog, Facebook etc...
Enjoy the photos taken by myself, Claire & Leonard.
Of my birthday

& from around Dunedin - Cheers everybody

You're staying in Port Chalmers???? I'm from Sawyers Bay!!! I used to go to "Port" for sports day, fish & chips, girl guides... fond memories.
Also, you should know that back in my day the Port Chalmers crew were slightly less respectable (there's a PUB) than the Sawyers Bay crew.
Good to see that you're visiting some of the gorgeous beaches... watch out for the seals, it's never a good idea to step into a harem.
Yes Lena, I'm lucky enough to be living in Port with Leonard and OLIVE (not OLIVER, as Dan seems to have changed her sex) but unlucky to have Dan stay for a few weeks and annoy me nearly to death!!I have to admit he's done an outstanding job at annoying me 10 out of 10 Dan!!Ha Ha!!
I have taken him to some of my favourite places in Port and he's walked around the back road/back beach(my usual walks I have with Olive) and other beaches close to Port. And of course introduced him to Port Royale cafe!!
Unfortunately he stumbled across Starbucks in the first hour he was in Dunedin!!However I have provided him with a map of the 15 or so cafes that are NOT Starbucks!HA HA!!But he still goes to Starbucks!Apart from Port Royale...
It has been good to have Dan here, if a slight shock to the system to have him live here with us and how long he was going to hang around for but I have(and Olive) got used to him hanging around (like a favourite old pair of boots!ha ha!. It'll be strange when there is no Dan to annoy me on my days off and in the evenings when I get home from work, or to cook, do washing up and generally make a mess!Ha ha!!Love you Dan x
And Lena there is still sports days and fish and chips, not sure about the girl guides but there are the Sea Scouts, Karate classes et al. And the Chicks Hotel is again a music venue.
Amazing that you are from Sawyers Bay eh?Small world.
The last comment was by me Lena.
P.S. And Dan hasn't broken anything...yet...!
Hi Claire!
I hope you're getting Dan to do all the cooking... he may have sold his soul to Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts BUT he's a phenomenal cook and it would be a shame not to exploit those skills to the max.
Am sad to say that I don't know the Port Royale Cafe... seems I've been away too long.
No, Dan's been cooking only a few times. I've not really let him in the kitchen. The lasagne he made the other night was good though. I love cooking myself so tend to do most of it, alongside Leonard who's also a good cook. So there's a bit of competition in the kitchen!!
We've had a few good meals' out too...
Sounds like you've made a bit of an impression on the town of Port C, Dan!!!!!!!!!!
I am going to stick up for Starbucks! Vive La Starbucks! I'm with you on that one, Dan.
Nice to see the pictures of you and the lovely New Zealand scenery.
And glad you had a nice birthday. 2x20 - I must remember that!
Dave xx
